Summary
As Estimator within Damen Shiprepair Götaverken your prime responsibility will be to timely produce detailed and complete quotations for drydock- and repair specifications received from our (international) customers. Your success will be measured in terms of overall quality and completeness of produced quotation documentation as well as the efficiency and speed of which the quotation is produced.

Damen Shiprepair Götaverken is one of the Operating Units of the Damen Shipyards Group and based in Goteborg Sweden. Damen Shiprepair Götaverken is a middle size organization, mainly engaged in (international) ship repairs and operates 2 floating drydocks and approximately 1000 meters of repair quay. The company permanently employs approximately 125 staff of which 25 white-collar. The annual revenue is around 30 Million Euro.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- To review, inspect, clarify, interpret and develop detailed scope of work for every project/job being enquired by the client. The function requires regular short travelling mainly within Europe;
- To support the invoicing department with the preparation of the actual billing if needed;
- To coordinate with the production departments for issues related to resources, capacity and engineering as required for the purpose of cost estimation of jobs;
- To coordinate with external vendors or subcontractors on getting quotes for any materials, equipment or resources that may be needed for completing the estimation of the jobs;
- Perform any other duties assigned by the commercial director;
- The Estimator reports directly to the Commercial Director;
- He/she is responsible for the correct cost calculation and contract margins of each individual specified job as well as the overall commercial contract margin of the project. The estimator ensures all internal and external documentation related to each quotation tasks is properly administrated and handed over to the project department upon receipt of a firm order from the customer;
- The estimator is responsible and must ensure that offered prices are supported by a cost build up calculation and where applicable supported by clear and transparent turnkey quotations from our subcontractors and suppliers;
- The Estimator has a structured approach to each assigned estimating assignment and ensures that the yard quotations produced contain a high percentage of lump-sum priced items while maintaining sufficient level of work detail and transparency.
Profile
- Must have knowledge of the ship operating systems and purpose and have the ability to read and interpret drawings from the enquiries and prepare Bill Of Materials (BOM's) accordingly;
- Should be familiar with requirements and resources concerning repair and refit of ships especially on the Mechanical, Piping and Structural aspects. Knowledge of estimation of the electrical and instrumentation aspects in a ship repair will be an added advantage;
- Knowledge of European market standards and rates for manpower, machinery and subcontractors will be an added advantage;
- Knowledge of repair standards, class requirements and other regulations associated with ship repair estimation will be essential;
- MS Office skills such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, will be mandatory;
- Must have the ability to develop detailed scope of work, bar charts, plans for every job / project being estimated;
- Is structured and organized with a sharp eye for detail;
- Can work against hard deadlines without compromising quality of work;
- Is a good negotiator and communicator;
- Has minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience as a ship repair estimator;
- Is fluent in English and Swedish (or willing to learn Swedish).
